Dam Long Ride

Event date:
Sat, 05/30/2020 - 7:30am

Meet up at Love’s Travel Stop in Cleveland (107 FM 2025, Cleveland, TX 77328) at 7:30am with KSU at 8am.

We will meet at Love’s in Cleveland, and we will ride to the Lake Livingston Dam, crossing a bridge near the spillway (Trinity River). Next, we head east to ride ON the Sam Rayburn Dam, crossing a bridge just over the spillway (Angelina River). Then we continue east to the Toledo Bend Dam, where we cross the Sabine River. Yes, crossing the Sabine means we are now in Louisiana, where we ride Louisiana 191, which is (IMO) the best motorcycle road in Louisiana. This road is scenic (with a few exceptions) and is never straight for very long. We ride 191 to Logansport and cross back into Texas for lunch (fast food). From there we take back roads through east Texas to US59 at Leggett. Then we travel south to Porter for dinner at Hofbrau Steakhouse (To be confirmed). Note: Porter is very close to the 99 toll road. This ride is 413 miles long, with a ride time of 8 hours, which does not include stops. This is a LONG ride.
So this is a Dam Long ride. It is not a long dam ride, because we do not pass any dams that are considered “long”.
CAUTION! This ride is for experienced riders, for two reasons:
There are multiple roads on this ride where the speed limit is 75 MPH (and traffic is doing 80), so you need to be comfortable riding at 75 MPH.
This is a long ride, where everyone will be tired at the end of the ride. The real issue is that after this long ride, you will be tired, not at your best, but will be riding Houston freeways late in the day to get home.My estimate is that most riders will spend at least 12 hours (maybe more) away from homeAn all day event.
